Esplanade filling continues.
1931
The state widens the south end of Charlesbank, doubles the width of the Esplanade between the Longfellow Bridge and Charlesgate, adds the “Make Way for Ducklings” islands near Community Boating and the lagoon between Exeter and Fairfield Streets, and creates a new section of Esplanade between Charlesgate and the Boston University Bridge. It is completed by 1934. In 1950-51, the MDC does more filling to compensate for land taken for Storrow Drive, creating today’s Lederman Park, the islands forming the Storrow Lagoon, and 5.6 new acres between the Massachusetts Avenue and Boston University Bridges.
